A Beautiful Message

What makes a person rich?

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
" It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reachs to the front yard and they have
the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect
them."

The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

Your Last Day

Let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. - 1 Thessalonian 5:6

What if you were told this morning that today was to be your last day on earth? How would you spend its fleeting hours? Whom would you insist on seeing? Would your behaviour differ radically from what it usually is?

Someone has wisely said, " You should treat every day as if it's your last one, because one of these days you're going to be right."

There's no getting around it. Whether our earthly life ends by accident, illness, the ravages of age, or our Lord's return, one of these days will be our last. That's why we should guard so carefully the things we do and the words we say.

We ought to be trying up the loose ends of long-neglected matters by expressing our love and gratitude to others, by seeking reconciliation with an alienated friend, or by sharing the gospel with a neighbour.

Perhaps you've even been putting off accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour until some more convenient day. But that day may never come. Since your last day on earth can be so unexpected, heed Paul's inspired words: "Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2). Are you living each day as if it were your last? -Vernon Grounds

THINKING IT OVER
What are the five most important things you
would do if this were your last day on earth?
Would you seek out God?

What would you change if this day were your last?

Shared Tears

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. - Romans 12:15

A story was told about a little boy with a big heart. His next-door neighbour was an older gentlemen whose wife had recently died. When the youngster saw the elderly man crying, he climbed up onto his lap and simply sat there.

Later, his mother asked the boy what he had said to their saddened neighbour.
"Nothing," the child replied. "I just helped him cry."

Sometimes that is the best thing we can do for people who are facing profound sorrow. Often, our attempts to say something wise and helpful are far less valuable than just sitting next to the bereaved ones, holding their hand, and crying with them.

One of the ways we can help our fellow believers is to "weep with those who weep" (Romans 12:15). Jesus demonstrated that principle when He visited Mary and Martha after /lazarus died. Sensing the depths of Mary's despair over her brother Lazarus's death, Jesus shared her grief by weeping (John 11:35). Bystanders took note and said, "See how He loved him!" (John 11:36).

Sometimes the best thing we can do for those who are travelling life's most sad and lonely road is to "help them cry." Jesus showed us that it's important to share another's tears. Is there anyone who needs your tears today? -Dave Branon

A heartfelt tear can show our love
As words can never do;
It says, "I want to share your pain -
My heart goes out to you." -D.De Haan

A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved.

My First Time

Followed Serene to her house because she has a so-called "cell-group" going on in her house every Friday. Some sort of group gathering, sharing their experiences as well as studying the Bible together. This is my very first time to join such gathering and I truly enjoyed myself. The talk was great and touches my heart deeply. It made me repent what I have done. Alfred ( I apologize if I spelt his name wrongly) said he thought that he took god's forgiveness as granted. Honestly, I totally agreed. Perhaps I took too many things as granted. However, speaking the truth, I've never taken friends as granted, especially dhz. I really want to thank god to give me such a warm home, a loving mother, a protective father ( I pray for), a mischevious brother, an "ai mei" sister, last but not least, all the friends around me. I'm grateful to know all of you. Lastly, I would like to post up the following 2 songs that I've learnt today. =)

For all You've done
My saviour, Redeemer
Life me from the miry clay
Almighty, Forever
I will never be the same
Cause you came near

From the everlasting
To the world we live
Father's only son

You lived and you died
You rose again from high
You opened the way
For the world to live again
Hallelujah
For all you've done

Come Holy Spirit
Come holy spirit, Fall on me now
I need your anointing come in your power
I love you holy spirit
You're captivating my soul
And everyday I grow to love you more

I'm reaching for your heart
You hold my life in your hand
Drawing me closer to you
I feel your power renew
Nothing compares to this place
Where I can see you face to face
I worship you
In spirit and in truth

To Have One, Be One

A man who has friends must himself be friendly. - Proverbs 18:24

All of us need at least one or two close friends. A small boy defined a friend as someone who knows all about you and likes you just the same. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, " A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature." Henry Durbanville made this observation about friendship: " A friend is the first person to come in when the world goes out."

Solomon wrote in Proverbs 17:17, " A friend love at all times." We can't improve on that definition. To have someone who remains true to us under all circumstances is one of life's choicest blessings. The support and encouragement that only a close friend can offer is sorely needed when the burdens of life weigh heavily upon us. Jesus, of course, is the ultimate friend, for He laid down His life for His friends (John 15:13)

Proverbs 18:24 makes an important point and takes us beyond a description of what it means to be a friend. It says that " a man who has friends must himself be friendly." The implication is clear" Friendliness must begin with us. We must take the initiative in developing relationships with others. When it comes to friends, to have one you must be one! -Richard De Haan

I went outside to find a friend
But could not find one there;
I went outside to be a friend,
And friends were everywhere! -Anon

Friends are seldom found; they are made.

Why did I post this? There's a story behind this. Well, it started with Sunil's "pre-birthday party" in red box where I chose this song and no one other than me knows it. To not be the only person enjoying it, I decided to tell Yu Wooi to "cut" the song. I have no idea why this song was stuck in my head since then. Thus, here it goes, the lyrics is posted here.

Actually I wanted to take a picture of my mom's new car which got scratched at the trunk yesterday. She was very angry with that "clumsy" fellow who doesn't even know how to park a car!! She was very angry not just simply because of his clumsiness but his attitude. He didn't even bother to get his butt off his car to apologise. This incident went all the way from SPCA to the nearest police station. Mom won the case and she got paid for the "fabulous scar" that the man did. Today, mom got her "precious baby" done which cost more than what the man has paid. *sigh* It's just not her day.

Next... there goes another quiz from Serene's blog.

Your Blog Should Be Purple

You're an expressive, offbeat blogger who tends to write about anything and everything.
You tend to set blogging trends, and you're the most likely to write your own meme or survey.
You are a bit distant though. Your blog is all about you - not what anyone else has to say.

LOLz!! I end up getting the same result as Serene, which is purple...

The Gift Box

Some time ago, a man punished his 5-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became even more upset when the child pasted the gold paper so as to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." The father was embarrassed by his earlier over reaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box was empty.

He spoke to her in a harsh manner, "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?"

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was full."

The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later and it is told that the father kept that gold box by his bed for all the years of his life. And whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems he would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remembered the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us as human beings have been given a golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends and God. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

Friends are gifts from God who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. Think positive and act.

Are you a loser?

This is my first blog and I came out with a shocking title!!
"Are you a loser?"
Yes, i got this in Serene's blog and found it quite interesting.
Perhaps because I'm not a loser!!
