Merdeka Dinner
31st August 2006 is Malaysia's 49th National Day. Being a non-Malaysian, I'm also very excited. I can be called as a "Malaysian" too since I've been staying there for almost my whole life! Pretend-Malaysian will be more appropriate. (I failed the "How Malaysian are you?" test - 21/45) Friends are mostly Malaysian and I've blended into their culture. Imagine being a Taiwanese yet missing Malaysia, Malaysian food... Hahaha...
The actual Merdeka Dinner was set on 1st September 2006. However, we had our own celebration in Vinora's place - Evatt House Block G. It was a pot luck thing and we have to cook a dish or two per room. This was a "girls only event" and those who turned out were...
Really enjoyed the food... It ended with the Morpeths leaving early and the remaining 8 on-campus residents playing ps2. The "buzzing" game. We divided ourselves into 2 groups - Nuts vs Hans. Nuts were the N&Ds while Hans were the Biomeds. It ended up with the N&Ds winning due to unfair advantage - Vinora, who knows most of the answers before hand since she has played it before.

Alright, to the "REAL" Merdeka Dinner... took me quite a while to blog this because it's very hard to gather the photos from different cameras. Thankfully, I managed to get nice photos from a few people. This day, 1st September 2006, was the actual Merdeka dinner organised by MYSUN - the Malaysia Society in Newcastle. Being a pretend-to-be-Malaysian, I joined the dinner of course. Early this evening, Kimberly came to Bara 112, the temporary "Kimberly saloon", to help out with our make-ups and hair-styling. This was a disaster as time was running out and more and more people were lining up. This turned out that all of us gotta help each other in dressing up. Before I forget, we have to thank Kimberly for all those hardwork! It ended up with Kimberly herself not having enough time to dress herself up! So so sorry!
Ironically, we were the one reminding everybody else to be outside Edwards Hall at 5.45pm sharp and MUST NOT be late. In the end, we were the one being late. In fact, do you know why we stated 5.45pm? Malaysian Culture. Yuen Kit knew that we won't be punctual beforehand and therefore purposely made the meet up time 15 minutes early. Smart Smart!
Now, let me bring you into our Dinner~
Photos show everything... Better than words...

Girls! At least one-third of these girls are "arts" done by Kimberly!

Food Food Food! Who cares about the lucky draw anyway? Food is more important than anything else. My first meal of the day.

Taken with Dai Lou and sis-in-law... O_O! Dato'!

Dato' and his body guards!

Quite a blurring one but fairly nice too!

Congratz to Jesselyn who won the "orang gila" female.

The "orang gila" male and "orang gila" female. Guess what? Both from Bara!

I think Edison should win the Mr Patriotic.

Lastly, a group photo for the Taylor's School of Biomedical Science students in Newcastle. This includes our badge, the seniors and the juniors. I must specify this photo is from Dai Lou's camera. Gotta make him feel proud of his good quality photos!
