Sleepless nights

I'm in pain...
I haven't been sleeping well for the past 2 days...
I feel like dying...
but for your disappointment, yes, I'm still alive!
I'll still haunt you whenever I could.

Sydney... Again...

It started with Edison asking if we wanted to go Sydney last weekend (26th July). After a long and lame conversation, the "Sovereign Warriors" gang decided to pay Sydney another visit! Our main schedule was:
  • Dim Sum for brunch
  • Karaoke
  • Max Brenner
  • Japanese Cuisine for dinner
I contacted our friends down in Sydney - Jesselyn, JuJu and Eng Juin, inviting them to join our fun. Unfortunately, Jesselyn's friend came all the way from Tasmania to visit her, so she couldn't make it. As for JuJu, her reply was, "I don't think I can wake up. But I'll join you for dinner!!" Eng Juin was also busy but he said he could join us once he settled whatever he has to do. Other than the Sovereign Warriors, Edison also invited Fritz and Sze Yee, but they couldn't make it because they were busy. Nevermind, we can have all the fun!! *Hehe* Early morning, HL and I walk to Civic station just to find out that the ticket machine does not work! So, we went to the counter (which doesn't sell train tickets... how lame!) and ask what we should do.

The man said, "You can purchase your ticket at your destination."

"What if someone came on to check the ticket?" We asked.

"Don't worry about that! They all know this machine is out of order." He replied.

However, he doesn't sound convincing at all!! So we decided to call KH who was waiting at the Hamilton station to purchase the ticket for us. And he did. We met up with the other three on the train and begin our "cho dai di" tournament. Initially, everyone else kept on winning, except for me. Although I didn't win, I didn't lose either. Always come second or second last. Half way through, HL left the game and William joined in. Initially, William was in his luck. However, after a few rounds, I started winning... and this continued until we reached Sydney Central. This made Edison very frustrated since he has been shuffling since then. Aiyo... come on! It's just a game! Why so serious? *Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha*

****************

Once we reach Central, we rushed to a Chinese Restaurant called Zilver for yam cha. We got a sucky corner seat but this didn't stop the waiter/waitress from ignoring us. They came to us, offering a variety of dim sum and they were fabulous! They were very friendly too! When we rejected some of the dishes, they still walk away with a smile. Then we started comparing this restaurant to the others that we have been to. We were saying that "bla bla bla" restaurant has some arrogant waiter/waitress. For example, when we turned down on their food, they will show impatience and frustration. No offense, but we came to a conclusion, Chinese Restaurants with a Chinese Boss have friendly waiter/waitress. Chinese Restaurants with a Hong Kong Boss have arrogant waiter/waitress. I know there may be some exceptions but so far this is our experience.

After dim sum, we headed to Capitol Square for karaoke. It was AUD12.00 per 2 hours + 1 free drink. This is when Eng Juin joined in. It wasn't as good as the one in Malaysia but at least they still have a list of songs that we wanted (Of course, some that we wanted but they don't have). We were so excited and started singing till heads off. After 2 hours, we were still not satisfied so we extended for another 2 hours. When time was up, we still have 30+ songs in our waiting list! Gosh, this was definitely not enough! We should go to Red Box when we fly back to Malaysia and sing until sore throat! Hahaha!!

According to our schedule, our next destination was Max Brenner. Basically, I was the one who was craving for Max Brenner Belgian Waffles. The guys were just there to accompany me. *touched* It was at least 20 minutes walk from Capitol Square okay? And William was carrying a 22 inch LCD monitor all the way. What was cruel for him was that, after finishing Max Brenner, we have to spend another 20 minutes walking back to Market City for our dinner. Sorry loR. *bow*

This is when we met up with JuJu for dinner at a Japanese Restaurant called Menya. They served a variety of Japanese Bento. I wanted to order the Unagi Box but HL also wanted that. After a small discussion, I ordered the Tori Katsu-miso Box and he ordered Unagi Box, so we can share. Honestly, the Unagi Box taste so much better. Other than rice boxes, they have ramen boxes too. They even had this super gigantic ramen which was 2kg worth of ramen. If you managed to finish that bowl of ramen within 30 minutes, you get it absolutely free. However, if you did not finish the ramen within the time limit, the ramen will cost you AUD29.95.

After dinner, we walked around in Central for a while longer before we headed back home. On the way back, we were back to the "cho dai di" tournament. I won my last game and left the game half way, because I was too tired to carry on. The boys continued playing until we reached Newcastle, while I slept throughout my journey. *Haha* Tired ma...

There goes another day... a day trip... in Sydney.

Is chewing gum bad for your teeth? (Modified from original post)

This post is in response to Benedict's post. (Didi, I know you will read my post! =D)

Some studies have shown that chewing gum can have an indirect positive effect on your teeth. The actual gum is pretty inert. It isn't digestible and it doesn't promote decay. It does two things. First, it mechanically cleans the surfaces of your teeth as you chew. Second, and possibly the most beneficial, it promotes the flow of saliva. Saliva is a natural buffering agent which washes the teeth and neutralises some of the acid produced by bacteria. It is the acid which erodes enamel and eventually causes cavities. One study showed that after chewing gum for 10 minutes each waking hour for two weeks, participants increased their salivary flow to a functional level and increased salivary pH and buffering capacity.

HOWEVER...

Gum typically contains some type of sweetener which can be harmful to your teeth if these types of gum are chewed to often or are removed from the mouth too soon. In fact, studies have shown that if a person chews gum containing sugar, it should be chewed for at least 15 to 20 minutes. After this time, the sugar is gone, but the saliva is sufficiently stimulated to rinse away some of the sugar residue.

Vogel et al., (1998) found significant increases in pH, free calcium, and phosphate concentrations in plaque and saliva when an alpha-tricalcium-phosphate-containing gum was chewed after a sugary meal. The results of the study suggest that this experimental gum may be more effective than conventional gum in reducing the cavity causing effects of sugar.

One artificial sweetener called Xylitol is proving to be quite beneficial. This ingredient may directly prevent cavities. One study from Finland shows not only a reduction in decay in children who have chewed gum with this ingredient, but extremely small lesions have actually been reversed. The exact mechanism of action of Xylitol is unknown, but it appears to inhibit bacterial growth, including growth of Streptococcus mutans -- the main bacteria implicated in dental decay. Perhaps it causes Streptococcus mutans to lose a competitive edge in the oral ecosystem.

The proper protocol for cavity protection is to chew two pieces of gum three to five times daily for at least five minutes per chewing session. Any less time will decrease the effectiveness of the Xylitol. Xylitol appears to be the only artificial sweetener which is not fermented by Streptococcus mutans, although the other sweeteners are fermented at a much lower rate than sugar.

One eight-week crossover clinical study conducted at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry found that BreathAssure Dental Gum reduced the accumulation of plaque on the test subjects' teeth by 35 percent. Volunteers chewed the gum three times a day for 20 minutes, while a control group chewed a placebo gum. All test subjects practiced regular brushing and flossing routines during the study. The results of this study were made public on February 2, 1999.

One drawback to chewing gum is the potential for TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems. Gum chewing may result in muscle fatigue and pain--especially if it is done frequently and/or for long periods of time. In one survey of orthodontists and oral surgeons, 46 percent believed that infrequent gum chewing could lead to TMJ concerns. This statistic increased to 65 percent for frequent gum chewers. Orthodontists appeared to express more concern than oral surgeons. Perhaps they are also worried about the effects of gum chewing on orthodontic appliances. Research, however, has not really established the relationship between gum chewing and development of structural changes within the jaw joint, which could lead to fatigue and/or pain.

Gum chewing is an individual choice. It is a good idea to brush your teeth, or at least rinse your mouth with water after chewing gum. If you are susceptible to decay, gum containing Xylitol may have some benefit for you. If you experience muscle fatigue, jaw joint pain or headaches from chewing gum, perhaps infrequent chewing or excluding gum altogether may be the best solution.

Does this answer your question? *wink wink*

19th July 2008

This is the day that I most look forward to for the month and that is a day trip to Sydney.
*Boooo~~~~*
"Chup Chup!!"
Not that going to Sydney is something fascinating but WHAT we are going to do there is!! We have the whole day planned. *Hehe* This day, Lin Kooi drove 5 of us, including himself down to Sydney early in the morning. We wanted to catch dim sum and Max Brenner in Sydney CBD before the climax of the day. I suddenly came out with the Harbour Bridge Close, Road Close issues due to the World Youth Day. Oh crap! Now how can we get in? We have no choice but to park our car at Chatswood and catch a train in. However, we couldn't find a good parking - i.e. a cheap one. Guess what, we drove into the parking of Chatswood Shopping Centre and realised that the first 3 hours for the parking was absolutely free. Wow, this sounds like a good deal isn't it? But wait till you read further, you will cough out blood like we nearly did. AUD40.00 maximum for one day!!! Without seconds thoughts - 5 of us shouted out, GET OUT!! Just before we wanted to try our luck at the next nearest train station, Lin Kooi's friend called. We found out that there's a good dim sum at Chatswood Shopping Centre. Oh well, since we are already in chatswood, we might as well just have our dim sum here. So, there we go... back to the parking! *Haha* The road in sydney is something like in KL, once you miss the turn, you have to go one big round. Same goes to this place, one big round back to the shopping centre. Just then, we found out that there was one cheap parking near Chatswood train station!!! AUD11.00 for the whole day? This sounds a better deal! "Let's come back after dim sum!" So, we parked our car at the free parking in the shopping mall while having our dim sum there. The dim sum was fabulous, though I think dim sum in Malaysia taste better. It cost us about AUD17.70 per person and it is reasonable too! Everyone felt contented after the meal! *Happy happy*

Next, we headed towards the so-called cheap parking. In fact, it was even cheaper than AUD11.00 because they charge until 5.00pm on Saturdays and it's one dollar per hour. By the time we parked our car there, it's already almost 1.00pm! Do the math yourself! The train ticket from Chatswood to Central wasn't that cheap. Cost us AUD4.60 per person two-ways but there are around 9 stations apart? So, it's not that bad. Normal price in Australia anyway. Due to the World Youth Day, everywhere is crowded. The train, the stations, the road sides, the roads... Basically everywhere, every corner. These are not important anyway. The important event is at Darling Harbour - Sydney imax!! Yup! We have planned this long ago to watch The Dark Knight!!!

The Dark Knight - imax experience!!! Hurray~~~~~

Oh before I forget to mention, we had no time for Max Brenner due to the inconvenience caused by World youth Day. So we headed to imax straight after we reach central. Speaking of the imax ticket, it's only AUD16.00. It was originally over 20 dollars, but we went in a group of 12 and they gave us a special offer. What's more? All the seats for all 3 screens for the day were sold out! Luckily we had our tickets booked prior to the day. Stupidly, the seats were not allocated. So, if you really want a GOOD middle seat, you have to line up VERY early. Probably one or two hours ahead? I don't know. We queued up 30 minutes ahead and the line was already "snake-shape". What's more to say? The movie was GREAT! I don't understand why some people, like Jesselyn's friend said it was boring and some reviews said it wasn't that good. BUT for me, I really LOVE it! Come on, it's Batman!!

After movie, we went to Hurricane Grill at Darling Harbour. Once again, we booked this place a week in advance. Can you imagine that they can only fit us in at 6.00pm because other times were fully booked and we booked it A WEEK IN ADVANCE!! Their speciality was the Grilled Pork Ribs. Half cage was AUD26.00 and the full cage was AUD32.00. HL and I planned to share one full cage, but Sze Yee and Jesselyn wanted some too, so 4 of us shared one full cage. They also wanted the New York strip so both of them further shared the steak. It was not enough for us, especially HL since he is a big eater and originally planned half a portion, became a quarter of the portion. I didn't want to share the steak because they wanted it medium rare and earlier that day, we had this "beef tendon/ligament" at dim sum which I find it quite disgusting. I stole a piece from them though. The side piece without blood. It was very tender. Although it has no sauce, it's not dry either. However, I cannot say I like it. I still prefer the pork ribs.

Since it's still early, Jesselyn suggested going to Max Brenner. Yay! Since we have missed it earlier that day, we can finally fulfil our craving. Jesselyn, Sze Yee and I shared a double Belgian Waffle while HL and Lin Kooi shared another double Belgian Waffle. KH did not order anything though. Other than that, Sze Yee ordered a dark hot chocolate and I ordered a pink granito ice shake. Honestly, the waffles were not enough for me. But they are really GOOD!

Great time flies. After Max Brenner, it's time for us to head back to Newcastle. Reluctantly say goodbye to Jesselyn and we were off to Chatswood to get the car.

No photos because never take any. xD!! Good memories are meant to be kept to yourselves. =p

Just Babbling

No offense but...

Why is religion so important?
I just don't understand...

Christainity is a monotheistic religion. Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God. To them, Jesus Christ is the revealer of God and the saviour of humanity. I have many Christian friends and I really respect them because they are so devoted to God that no matter how busy they are, they will definitely HAVE time for Church services. No matter how packed their schedule is, how many unfinished pieces of work they have, they still get to HAVE time for bible studies. On top of that, they are ALL very friendly and helpful. At least all MY devoted Christian friends are.

However...

One thing I dislike from the teaching of Christianity is that they claimed that all other religions are evil spirit. People who don't believe in Christ will go to hell, bla bla bla... I totally dislike this thought.

I believe that God has many sons and that Jesus is not the only one. Buddha for example. When Buddha was borned, lilies grew after each step he took. When Jesus was borned, wasn't there a bright and shiny star over him? Aren't these the signs for the birth of God's son? I totally don't understand why people fight over religions! This is NOT what God wants! The world is so big. Even if Jesus has special powers, what he can do is still very limited. Therefore, God sent down his Sons to different places to guide the mortals.

If you look into other religions, they surely have something in common and that is to be GOOD, HONEST, KIND, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY, bla bla bla... How can they call these teaching evil spirits?

Nowadays, some people really make me feel disgusted! How could they make use of God's name to cheat the commoners? This is totally NOT in the teaching! Frame and wealth are illusions. At least that is what I learnt from the teaching. DON'T EVER USE GOD'S NAME FOR SHORTCUTS IN ORDER TO GET WHAT YOU WANT. I DESPISE YOU! YOU ARE NOBODY EXCEPT A GREEDY OLD MAN! (Old man makes the sentence flow better... lol)

Anyway, religion is a guidance to life and NOT the way of life. At least this is what I think.

Hmm... In my opinion, 90% accurate.
